Ideogram AI — the image generator that gets text right
Most image generators can’t put readable text inside an image. This means an extra step in a separate design tool just to add a headline or a label. Ideogram AI solves that, producing legible typography and compositionally accurate text in the same output as the image itself.

What is Ideogram AI?
Ideogram AI renders readable text inside images, something most generators still can't do. It also produces photorealistic photos, editorial illustrations, and graphic compositions from a prompt. V4, V4 Character, V3, and V3 Character are all available in Artlist's AI Toolkit.

What Ideogram AI’s image models can do
The core set of capabilities and limitations that Ideogram’s models share, and what that looks like in practice.
Accurate text inside images
Most image models garble words or drop text entirely. Ideogram renders legible, correctly spelled text inside the image, including headlines, labels, and multi-line copy. It’s most reliable on shorter strings, while very long or complex text occasionally needs a second run to land cleanly.
Photorealistic image quality
Produces sharp detail, natural lighting, and clean output, without heavy post-processing. It works well for product visuals and campaign imagery, but is less suited to highly stylized or abstract outputs where illustration models tend to perform better.
Editorial and illustration styles
Ideogram handles design-forward imagery well, such as poster art and editorial layouts. More controlled than generative art tools, it’s useful for work where aesthetic consistency matters, not so much for loose or painterly styles.
Multiple formats and ratios
Its models support square, portrait, and landscape ratios. You can generate up to 4 images per run. Native resolution is 1K, which covers most digital use cases comfortably. Print work at large format may need upscaling afterward.
Prompt enhancement built in
Describe an idea in a few words, and let the model fill in the gaps. Useful for fast ideation, less so when you know exactly what you want, and expansion is pulling the output in a different direction. Toggle it off for precise control.
Post-generation creative actions
Once your image is generated inside Artlist, you can edit it, turn it into a video, recreate it, upscale it, add it to an Artboard, generate music from it, or download it directly.

What is Ideogram V3?
Ideogram V3 handles what most image generators can't, text that's actually readable inside your visuals. Enter a prompt to generate posters, product labels, branded mockups, or any design where type needs to land exactly right.

Ideogram V3 Character
Upload a reference photo and Ideogram V3 Character locks the face and style, then adapts it to any new prompt — changing poses, outfits, and backgrounds while keeping the identity intact. Built for storyboards, comic panels, branded campaigns, and any project where characters need to stay consistent.
Ideogram V4: Place Every Element Exactly Where It Belongs
Most AI image models give you zero control over composition. Ideogram V4 lets you set bounding boxes for every element, render accurate text in any language, and output at 2K resolution. For brand assets, ad creatives, or text-heavy designs — this model handles what others skip.

Ideogram V4.5: Design-Ready Images With Text That's Right
Ideogram V4.5 is built for design work where text has to be accurate — posters, logos, ads, packaging. It renders headlines and labels with correct spelling, then lets you edit specific elements without regenerating the full image. Up to 2K resolution, five aspect ratios, four images per run.

Six capabilities that matter for design-led image generation.
What to make with Ideogram AI image models
Ideogram’s text accuracy opens up project types that other image generators can’t reliably handle. Each use case is unique in how it fits better than a general-purpose model.
How to write prompts for Ideogram AI
The way you structure a prompt shapes the output more than any other variable. These tips cover what actually moves the needle, across Ideogram’s models, and for different output goals.

A few things worth knowing. Ideogram V4 and V4.5 are text-to-image and image-to-image only — no video output. V4.5 adds precise editing of existing images, but it’s built for headlines and short copy, not dense body text. V3 Character accepts a reference photo for identity consistency but doesn’t support style references or editing commands. Across all models, long or multi-concept prompts degrade the output — the model starts missing or blending details when a prompt covers too much at once.
Ideogram V3 generates images at 1K resolution with strong text rendering and supports negative prompts and style references. Ideogram V4 is a ground-up architectural rebuild — a 9.3B-parameter open-weight model that outputs natively at 2K, achieves 0.97 OCR text accuracy (the highest among open-weight models), and supports native transparency. V4 handles custom aspect ratios up to 6:1, but doesn’t support style references or negative prompts. Choose V3 when you need style control; choose V4 when resolution and text accuracy are the priority.
Ideogram V4 is built for generating new images from text prompts with the highest text accuracy available. Ideogram V4.5 keeps that generation quality and adds precise image editing — you can fix a misspelled word, swap a label, adjust colors, or restyle elements in an existing image without regenerating the full frame. V4.5 also introduces three quality tiers (Low, Medium, High) and four rendering speeds. Use V4 when starting from scratch; use V4.5 when refining or editing.
Ideogram V3 is a text-to-image model — you describe what you want and it generates the image from scratch. Ideogram V3 Character is image-to-image — you upload a single reference photo and the model locks that person’s face, features, and identity across every output, even as you change poses, outfits, and backgrounds. Use V3 for standalone designs; use V3 Character for storyboards, brand mascots, or any project where the same character needs to appear in multiple scenes.
The clearest difference is text rendering. Models like Imagen 4 Ultra and GPT Image 1.5 produce strong photorealistic and general-purpose imagery, but none match Ideogram's accuracy when the image needs readable text built in. If typography is part of the design (not a caption added afterward) Ideogram is the right starting point. If photorealism without text is the priority, Imagen 4 Ultra or Flux.2 Edit Pro are worth looking at instead. Ideogram also stands out for character consistency — V4 Character and V3 Character lock a person's identity from a single reference photo, which most competing models on Artlist don't offer natively.
For text-heavy generation from scratch, Ideogram V4 delivers the strongest results — best-in-class text accuracy, 2K resolution, and editorial illustration quality. If you need to edit an existing image (fix a headline, swap a label, adjust colors) without regenerating the whole thing, Ideogram V4.5 is the right pick. For consistent character identity across multiple images, use V3 Character. Fall back to V3 when you need style references or negative prompts.
